Noise proliferation is becoming a bigger irritant every day. That’s why smart buyers are interested in homes built with noise reduction in mind. It’s also why we're introducing QuietBrace, a sound-deadening, structural sheathing that helps you put some strength into noise control.
Noise reduction.
QuietBrace is designed to reduce noise better than denser wood structural panels. Its noise-reduction coefficient of .30 is almost twice as high as denser material like OSB and plywood.
Structural strength.
QuietBrace is third-party certified to comply with the structural fiberboard standard ASTM C208 that is referenced in the IRC and the IBC. For specific code references to the C208 standard, click here.
Added insulation value.
QuietBrace adds extra insulation value too. The typical 1/2"-thick panel provides an R-value* of 1.31, which is anywhere from 20-50% higher than gypsum wallboard, OSB or plywood.
*“R” means resistance to heat flow. The higher the “R” value, the greater the insulating value.
Moisture protection.
QuietBrace offers two kinds of moisture damage protection. First, its exterior coating helps it resist liquid moisture absorption and infiltration to keep external moisture out of a structure. Second, its true permeability provides an escape route allowing interior moisture vapor to pass through to the outside, significantly reducing the risk of damaging mold and decay within the wall cavity.
Simplified application.
QuietBrace is simple and fast to install. It’s lightweight so it is easy to carry, cut and handle during installation, even with a smaller crew. It’s also available in lengths up to 10’ for maximum material and time efficiency on taller structures.
Cost efficiency.
Because QuietBrace provides all these added benefits in one product, it maximizes installation time, money and labor efficiency better than any other single sheathing material. And at an installed cost that is dramatically less subject to price instability.
Environmental responsibility.
QuietBrace is SCS certified to contain 84% recycled pre-consumer wood fiber. That means it’s an environmentally responsible building material that is renewable for the future and can contribute valuably to multiple sustainable building rating systems.
