- Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
- Preparation instructions and recommendations.
- Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
- Installation methods.
- 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Manufacturer Qualifications: Obtain each type of fiberboard and related joint treatment materials from a single manufacturer regularly engaged in producing fiberboard.
- Installer Qualifications: Perform work by company specializing in Work of this Section with minimum 5 years documented experience.
- 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
- Store products inside under cover and keep them dry and protected against damage from weather, direct sunlight, surface contamination, corrosion, construction traffic, and other damaging causes.
- Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
- 1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
- Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
- General Environmental Requirements: Establish and maintain environmental conditions for application with manufacturer's recommendations.

- 2.1 MANUFACTURERS

- Substitutions: Not permitted.
- Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.
- 2.2 WALL DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE
- STC 39: Wood Stud Framed Wall.
- Wood Framing: 2 inches by 4 inches (41 mm by 92 mm) studs, 16 inches (406 mm) o.c., 2 inches by 4 inches (41 mm by 92 mm) top and bottom plates.
- Inner Material: Temple-Inland SoundChoice applied vertically both sides with 1-12 inches (38 mm) galvanized roofing nails 12 inches (305 mm) on center on each stud, 12 inch (13 mm) from panel edges. Allow 18 inch (3 mm) gap at panel joints.
- Outer Wall Facing: 12 inch (13 mm) or 58 inch (16 mm) gypsum board as scheduled applied vertically with joints staggered relative to the inner fiberboard. Attach with fasteners spaced 8 inches (203 mm) on center on each stud.
- Wall Cavities: Empty.
- STC 56: Wood Stud Framed Wall.
- Wood Framing: Staggered 2 inches by 4 inches (41 mm by 92 mm) studs, 24 inches (610 mm) on center each side of 2 inches by 6 inches (41 mm by 143 mm) top and bottom plates. Adjacent studs on alternating sides of top and bottom plates are 12 inches (305 mm) on center.
- Inner Material: Temple-Inland SoundChoice sound deadening board applied vertically both sides with 1-12 inches (38 mm) galvanized roofing nails 12 inches (305 mm) on center on each stud, 12 inch (13 mm) from panel edges. Allow 18 inch (3 mm) gap at panel joints.
- Outer Wall Facing: 58 inch (16 mm) gypsum board applied vertically with joints staggered relative to the inner fiberboard. Attach with 8d nails spaced 8 inches (203 mm) on center at each stud.
- Wall Cavities: Lined with nominal 2 inches (51 mm) fiberglass insulation batts, friction fit.
- STC 49: Steel Stud Framed Wall.
- Wood Framing: Wood joists, 16 inches (406 mm) on center, attached to metal top and bottom runners with 12 inch (13 mm) S-12 sheet metal screws.
- Inner Material: Temple-Inland SoundChoice sound deadening board applied vertically both sides with 1 inch (25 mm) bugle head drywall screws spaced 12 inches (305 mm) on center at each stud, 12 inch (13 mm) edges. Allow 18 inch (3 mm) gap at panel joints.
- Outer Wall Facing: 58 inch (16 mm) gypsum board applied vertically with joints staggered relative to the inner fiberboard. Attach with 1-58 inches (41 mm) Type S bugle head drywall screws spaced 12 inches (305 mm) on center at each stud.
- Wall Cavities: Empty.
- STC 55: Flooring on Panel/Insulation Board Sandwich.
- Finished Floor: Pad and carpet.
- Deck: 1/2 inch (13 mm) underlayment grade plywood glued to 1/2 inch (13 mm) Temple-Inland SoundChoice sound deadening board, stapled to 5/8 inch rated sheathing subfloor on wood joists at 16 inches (406 mm) on center.
- Ceiling: Resilient channels spaced 24 inches (610 mm) on center. 5/8 inch (16 mm) gypsum wallboard screwed to channels; joints taped.
- Insulation: 3 inch (76 mm) glass fiber insulation between joists.
- STC 57: Flooring on Furring Strips.
- Finished Floor: 0.075 inch (2 mm) vinyl sheet flooring.
- Deck: 1/2 inch (13 mm) T&G underlayment grade plywood stapled to 1 x 3 inch (25 x 76 mm) wood furring strips (narrow edges vertical) at 16 inches (406 mm) on center, staggered from floor joists, glued to 1/2 inch (13 mm) Temple-Inland SoundChoice sound deadening board, and stapled to 5/8 inch (16 mm) rated sheathing subfloor on wood joists at 16 inches (406 mm) on center.
- Ceiling: Resilient channels spaced 24 inches (610 mm) on center. 5/8 inch (16 mm) gypsum wallboard screwed to channels; joints taped.
- Insulation: 3 inch (76 mm) glass fiber insulation between joists.
- STC 52: Flooring on Sleepers.
- Finished Floor: 44 ounce carpet over 40 ounce pad.
- Deck: 19/32 inch (15 mm) T&G Sturd-I-Floor nailed to 1 x 3 inch (25 x 76 mm) sleepers. Glue sleepers halfway between joists to 1/2 inch (13 mm) Temple-Inland SoundChoice sound deadening board and staple to 1/2 inch (13 mm) rated sheathing subfloor on 2x wood joists at 16 inches (406 mm) on center.
- Ceiling: 5/8 inch (16 mm) gypsum wallboard screwed to resilient channels. Tape joints.

- 2.3 MATERIALS
- Sound Deadening Fiberboard: Meets ASTM C208, the Standard Specification for Cellulosic Fiber Insulation Board for Type 1 sound deadening board.
- 1/2 inch (13 mm) thick.
- Product: SoundChoice sound deadening fiberboard as manufactured by Temple-Inland.
- Insulating Value: R=1.22 at 12 inch (13 mm) thick (ASTM C518).
- Noise Reduction Coefficient: 0.35 (ASTM C423).
- Sound Transmission Class: 26 (ASTM E90).
- PART 3 EXECUTION
- 3.1 EXAMINATION
- Examine areas and conditions under which Work of this Section will be performed. Correct conditions detrimental to timely and proper completion of Work. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
- 3.2 INSTALLATION
- Install sound deadening fiberboard in wall construction as scheduled to comply with manufacturers instructions to achieve sound rated assembly.
