To provide a way of evaluating the performance of these products in your application, we offer the following values obtained by testing in accordance with ASTM C1629 accompanied by a brief description of the test process used in each case and the corresponding classification level.
Surface Abrasion:
To provide a measure of the abrasion-resistant performance of our product when installed in high-traffic areas.

NOTE: The test is conducted using ASTM standard D4977 with an additional 25 lbs. of weight added to the abrading wire brush which makes 50 cycles across the board's face. The depth of the abrasion is then measured.
AR Classification Level = 3 IR Classification Level = 3
Surface Indentation Resistance:
To provide a measure of our product’s resistance to incidental wall impact from such items as chairs, carts and furniture.

NOTE: The test values are an average of test results from three uniform samples of each product. They represent the depth of an indention created by a 5/8" rounded indenter punch impacting with a force of 72 in.-lbs. of drop energy, according to ASTM D5420.
AR Classification Level = 1 IR Classification Level = 1
Hard-Body Impact Test:
To provide a measure of the resistance of our product to hard-object impact intended to penetrate the wall.

NOTE: The test values are an average of test results from three uniform samples of each product. They represent the minimum force required for a capped 2" steel pipe to penetrate the product supported by 16" o.c. framing.
AR Classification Level = 1 IR Classification Level = 3
Soft-Body Impact Test:
To provide a measure of the resistance of our product to soft-body impact.

NOTE: The test values are an average of test results from three uniform samples of each product. They represent the minimal force required for the following:
- Surface Failure – 1st visible indication of surface damage
- Deformation Failure – permanent set of L/240* at impact location
- Structural Failure – penetration through product
The tests were conducted on panels supported 16" o.c. according to ASTM E695 using a 60-lb. leather bag for ComfortGuard AR. A 120-lb. bag was substituted for the tests on ComfortGuard IR.
*L = 96"
