The construction of Prestonwood Baptist Church proves that even the need for gypsum is bigger in Texas.
Scaled to Texas-size dimensions, Prestonwood Baptist Church is a 460,000 square-foot house of worship in suburban Dallas. Temple-Inland played a major role in the completion of this large project by supplying the gypsum wallboard.
Longhorn Building Materials of Dallas was the dealer. A distributor of Temple-Inland gypsum for more than three decades, Longhorn furnished the 5/8" fire-rated gypsum used on the facility's interior.
Longhorn's Joe Layne helps put the grand scale of the church in perspective.
“To give you an idea of the size of this church, about 39 acres of wallboard, or about 1.7 million feet were used,” said Layne. “That's equivalent to the area of 37 football fields. We were even able to drive our boom truck into the auditorium to work on the mezzanine. This is a big church.”
Johnnie Barnes of Baker Drywall was in charge of overseeing the installation of all this wallboard. With such a large project, product availability was the key to keeping construction on schedule. Barnes was pleased with Temple-Inland's on-time delivery.
“There were a lot of changes being made during construction, and Temple-Inland always came through,” said Barnes. “We had no problems getting the product and it always showed up in good shape. Temple-Inland and Longhorn responded every time we needed something.”
Longhorn Building Materials has a long-standing relationship with Temple-Inland and Joe Layne has been using Temple-Inland products as long as he has been in the industry.
“I've been using Temple-Inland products for over 30 years,” said Layne. “I've never seen quality or shipping problems. I'm very satisfied with Temple-Inland.”
