Round Rock ISD Technical Center

Impressive Interior Performance. Exceptional Green Benefits. GreenGlass sets a high standard for performance and recycled content. At least that’s what Doug Mercer, Project Manager at Lasco Acoustics & Drywall, had to say about his first experience using GreenGlass fiberglass-faced gypsum interior board.

“While bidding for the Round Rock ISD Technical Center project in Texas, the general contractor originally asked us to use a particular product brand that would speed up the job schedule as it could be installed in a certain section before it was completely dried-in,” explains Mercer.

“But, between the bid time and the actual construction, the Temple-Inland GreenGlass interior board became available. Since this was a LEED project, I thought they might prefer a product with the same performance properties as the specified product – but with an incredible recycled content (of at least 90%) to help them with their LEED credits, and I was right,” says Mercer. “We quickly contacted the people at Temple-Inland for help – and they jumped right on getting us all the product information for the substitution request as well as everything we needed for the LEED worksheets. We submitted the substitution and the architect accepted it without exceptions.”

GreenGlass is a versatile, cost-efficient material choice for the wall, ceiling and dimensional accents that define the primary surfaces of the working/living spaces, the common areas, access passages and mechanical/storage rooms. Tested in accordance with ASTM E119, GreenGlass products are available with a Type X core formula for added protection and U.L. approval for use in over 140 fire-rated assemblies, providing you more design flexibility. Easy to work with – and featuring improved fiberglass encapsulation for a smoother surface and greater finishability over other glass mat products – GreenGlass interior board impressed the installers as well.

GreenGlass also performs well in higher moisture areas where paper-faced board is not an option. Produced with the TemShield® Mold Protection System engineered into its gypsum core, GreenGlass is faced on both sides with naturally mold-resistant fiberglass mats. It scored a 10, the highest value possible, when tested in accordance with ASTM D3273, the standard test for mold resistance. Its water absorption of less than 10 percent was tested in accordance with ASTM C473.

Mercer went on to conclude, “The product arrived on the site when they said it would, the men in the field enjoyed working with GreenGlass, the architect got his LEED credits, the general contractor got a product that performed well with other trades, and we helped a job get a better product with more LEED credits. It was an all around success for this project – and Lasco will definitely be using Temple-Inland GreenGlass products in the future.”

Whether your next project is residential or commercial, GreenGlass interior board can help you set a higher standard in designing comfortable, efficient spaces – and give you a serious advantage toward building green and environmental certification.
