Hoe-Down is a natural soil conditioner that stimulates rapid growth and helps develop deep root systems to produce healthier plants and lawns capable of surviving the hot summer months. Made from gypsum, or calcium sulfate, a naturally occurring mineral mined from the ground, Hoe-Down contains 23% available calcium and 15-18% sulfur, nutrients vital to plant health.
How it works
Good soil structure is one of the most fundamental components to producing vibrant, healthy plants and lush velvety lawns. Hoe-Down Gypsum Soil Conditioner loosens heavy, dense and water-impervious clay soils to enable better rooting with less watering and fertilizing. Because the soil is more open and porous, water and other nutrients are able to penetrate deeper and reach root systems faster. Fertilizers become more effective as they can migrate quickly into the loosened soil and be utilized immediately.
Directions for use
Hoe-Down can be easily applied with any standard type seed and fertilizer equipment with excellent broadcasting characteristics. Hoe-Down is ecologically safe, non-toxic and non-burning in any amount.
Established Lawns:
Recommended 40 lbs. per 800 square feet, depending on soil conditions. May be applied any season. Water the soil thoroughly after each application.
New Lawns:
Before sodding or seeding, minimum recommendation – 40 lbs. per 400 square feet, mix well into soil. Water the soil thoroughly after each application.
Gardens:
Spade in 25 lbs. per 100 square feet. Mix well with soil and add compost or organic matter. Water the soil thoroughly after each application.
Shrubs and Evergreens:
Spade in 10 to 20 lbs. of Hoe-Down around each shrub, 2 to 3 lbs. around each evergreen. Water thoroughly after each application. Apply in spring and fall for best results.
Salt Damage
Salt accumulation from winter de-icing salt (sodium chloride) is toxic to most plants and grasses. Hoe-Down helps to counteract the harmful effects of salt and salty runoff.
Soil damaged by runoff from salt-treated areas should be treated with 20-40 lbs. of Hoe-Down Gypsum Soil Conditioner per 100 square feet.
