Scientific Certification Systems
Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) has awarded Temple-Inland’s plant in El Dorado, Arkansas, certification for producing products using recovered and recycled materials. The certification covers UltraStock Select, Premium, Lite and UltraStock-Free MDF, as well as the Solidium MDF, Mill Run MDF and Utility MDF produced at this facility. These products are certified to have 78% pre-consumer recycled fiber on a dry-weight basis.
Composite Panel Association
The Composite Panel Association (CPA) has awarded Temple-Inland’s plant in El Dorado, Arkansas, a certificate of compliance to the requirements of California (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure 93120. The certification covers MDF product categories MD1 and MD2 to the standards of CARB phase 1, as well as MDF product categories MDT to the standards of CARB phase 2.
Our MDF is created from the reclaimed shavings, chips and other residue of several sawmills. By using these materials, we keep it out of landfills and also achieve maximum usability from every tree that is harvested.
Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP)
The Composite Panel Association (CPA) has awarded Temple-Inland’s plant in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania, a certificate of compliance to the requirements of the CPA 3-08 specification for Environmentally Preferable Products and the California (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure 93120. The certification covers UltraStock Select, Premium, Lite, Moisture Resistant and UltraStock-Free MDF produced at this facility verifying a recycled and/or recovered fibers content of 100%.
In addition, this certification verifies UltraStock MDF products conform to the mechanical properties of ANSI 208.2.
California Air Resources Board (CARB) NAF Approval
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has approved Temple-Inland's Mt Jewett, Pennsylvania, facility to use No-added Formaldehyde (NAF) Resins to produce MDF according to executive order N-09-02-1. The executive order covers UltraStock Select, Premium, Lite, Moisture Resistant and UltraStock-Free MDF produced at this facility.
Forest Stewardship Council™ Certification
The Forest Stewardship Council™ has certified that the manufacturing processes at Temple-Inland's MDF operations in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania, comply with the requirements for the production of FSC®-certified product. Certain products produced at these facilities are available with the FSC certification. This certification is due to the systems we have in place to track the fiber that comes from certified forests and keep it physically separated from noncertified fibers. By ensuring that fibers are tracked and properly sorted, we can demonstrate verifiable evidence of compliance with FSC guidelines for chain-of-custody and controlled wood recognition.

SCS is an independent third-party certifier. SCS was established in 1984 as the nation's first third-party certifier for testing pesticide residues in fresh produce. In the past 15 years, the company has evolved to become a certifier of multiple facets of the food industry and of the environmentally sound management of forests, marine habitats, and a wide variety of businesses.
