Temple-Inland gypsum board certified as CHPS-compliant, low-emitting material.

DIBOLL, Texas -- All Temple-Inland® gypsum board has been third-party certified by Materials Analytical Services, LLC (MAS) to meet the performance standard established for low-emitting materials under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program.

In addition to verifying compliance to the CHPS standard, MAS also tested product samples from all. Temple-Inland gypsum board manufacturing facilities and determined them to be free of sulfur off-gassing and therefore not considered problematic corrosive drywall types.

“We are pleased to have yet another independent verification of our board’s exceptional environmental attributes. Test results like this provide the data more architects and contractors need to specify our products in an increasing number of highly demanding green projects,” says Stephen Raley, Vice President, Gypsum.

Successful conformance with the CHPS standard for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) provides several environmental benefits. Besides qualifying Temple-Inland gypsum board for the MAS Certified Green program, superior test results also make projects using these products eligible for contribution toward credit IEQ 4.6 in the 2009 LEED for Schools rating system and CHPS credit EQ 2.3.6, encouraging the use of gypsum board with low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emissions.

Measurements were collected in accordance with the Emission Testing guidelines specified under ASTM D 5116-97. Specific testing parameters and compound emission limits were based on the California Department of Public Health Standard Practice (Section 01350) test method and California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Chronic Reference Exposure Limit list respectively.
