DIBOLL, Texas -- Temple-Inland® has introduced GreenGlassTM Fiberglass-Faced Gypsum Sheathing, their most mold-, moisture- and weather-resistant exterior gypsum product yet. In addition, GreenGlass is manufactured with a high percentage of recycled content, allowing the product to contribute valuable environmental credits in multiple green building rating systems and proven project protection from mold and moisture damage.
GreenGlass also offers design flexibility. It can be installed under a wide range of exterior veneers including brick, stone, metal, wood, vinyl, EIFS and various curtainwall systems. This makes it a suitable sheathing for almost any type of commercial or residential construction.
With GreenGlass were responding to high marketplace demand for additional fiberglass-faced sheathing products, specifically with high recycled content,” says Jim Hannan, Gypsum Marketing Support Specialist. “Today, our certified recycled content percentages are as high as 90%. This helps architects, designers, and builders not only build better but also greener. And that’s becoming a greater expectation every day.
Plus, were very confident about the mold and moisture resistance offered by this product, not only because of the natural resistance properties of its fiberglass facers, but because of our TemShield® Mold Protection that’s engineered into its gypsum core,” continued Hannan. “In fact, it scored a 10, the highest score possible in laboratory mold-resistance testing in accordance to ASTM standards. Another example of our confidence in this product is its 12-month exposure warranty.
GreenGlass offers noteworthy physical properties related to permeability, structural strength, moisture absorption, weight and flame spread as well. Manufactured to the ASTM product standard C1177, it conforms to IRC R702.3 and IBC 2506.2, meeting the requirements of a code-referenced structural wall bracing.
GreenGlass is now in production in both a 1/2"-thick standard core version and a 5/8"-thick Type X fire-resistant core. It is produced in a 4' width and lengths of 8', 9', 10' and 12'. In addition, the fire-resistant product has been UL approved for use in over 150 fire-rated assemblies, making GreenGlass very viable in commercial projects.
