DIBOLL, Texas -- Temple-Inland® has added yet another new product to their growing GreenGlass® family GreenGlass tile backer. Delivering the moisture and mold protection so critical in high moisture or humidity areas, as well as an impressive level of recycled content, GreenGlass is a superior tile substrate. Designed for walls, ceilings, shower and tub enclosures, countertops and residential or light commercial floors, GreenGlass is ideal for use in commercial and industrial kitchens, laundry or utility rooms, bath rooms, locker rooms, laboratory white rooms, operating rooms, enclosed swimming pools, residential steam rooms…and even in high-humidity non-tile areas. Basically anywhere that moisture and mold resistance is critical.

GreenGlass features a built-in moisture-blocking acrylic coating that resists water penetration through its surface, plus a water-resistant gypsum core formulated to include the TemShield® Mold Protection System. Faced on both sides with naturally mold- and moisture-resistant fiberglass mats, this combination has been shown to be highly mold resistant when tested as per ASTM D3273.
Available in 1/4", 1/2" and 5/8" thicknesses, a 48" width and both 8’ and 10’ lengths, GreenGlass scores and snaps like traditional gypsum board and offers improved fiberglass encapsulation for easier handling over other glass mat products. It produces less dust when cut than typical cement and fiber-cement backer boards, is lighter weight, enables cleaner cuts and eliminates the need for installing a separate water-proof membrane which is often required with cement-based products.
Tested in accordance with ASTM E136, GreenGlass 5/8” Type X tile backer is not combustible and may provide a fire-resistance rating of one or more hours depending upon the assembly in which it is applied. Tile installation is not required to achieve the fire-resistance rating. GreenGlass is a U.L.-classified Type X gypsum board and may be used in many fire-rated assemblies.
