Temple-Inland® Adds Mold Protection To Shaftliner Panels

DIBOLL, Texas – Temple-Inland has introduced Silent Guard TS, a mold-resistant version of its existing Silent Guard shaftliner panels.

Designed for elevator shafts, stairwells and area separation walls, Silent Guard TS maintains the same sound-control and fire-resistant properties of traditional Silent Guard, but adds mold and mildew protection as well. Silent Guard TS features TemShield, Temple-Inland’s new protection system, developed to answer growing concerns over mold growth on materials before and after installation.

The TemShield Protection System is manufactured into both the core and the surface of every Silent Guard TS panel. To make it easy to recognize in inventory and on the job, a new magenta face paper is used to indicate the added protection of TemShield.

According to Mike Moore, technical services manager at the company’s Fletcher, Oklahoma, manufacturing plant, the TemShield system is an excellent example of how an innovative company can adapt its products to provide what the market wants and needs.

“We hear from the field that architects as well as contractors are interested in doing whatever they can to reduce the threat of mold and mildew damage. As manufacturers, we can’t be there when the product is installed or stored to ensure proper handling, but by adding this protection to the product we are assisting our customers by helping to reduce the potential for problems to occur,” Moore says.

Silent Guard TS meets or exceeds the ASTM C1396 and Federal Specification SS-L-30d, Type IV Grade X standards. It also scored significantly better than untreated panels when tested per ASTM D3273 (Standard Test Method for Resistance to Growth of Mold on the Surface of Interior Coatings in an Environmental Chamber).

Another addition to a broad line of regular and specialty gypsum wallboard products, Silent Guard TS is available throughout Temple-Inland’s distribution network. Traditional Silent Guard shaftliner panels will continue to be available as well.

Temple-Inland Forest Products Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Temple-Inland Inc., produces a wide variety of building materials including lumber, studs, gypsum wallboard, engineered wood siding and trim, fiberboard sheathing, particleboard and MDF.
